The tips of a ring are the very tops of the prongs that hold the gemstone in place. Since the tops are exposed to the most wear, they can get worn down over time. When the tips wear thin, the gemstone will loosen and can fall out or get damaged. If the tops of the prongs on your ring look flat and thin and instead of rounded or your jewelry is starting to snag on your clothing, it may be time for some re-tip work.
Re-tipping simply adds metal to the prongs to increase stone security and prevent stone loss. Occasionally the prong itself may be bent or cracked; in that case we will repair or rebuild the entire prong as well as check the other prongs to make sure everything stays secure.
There's no need to set an appointment for tip & prong repair, just stop by any time during our store hours to drop your item off and get a quote.
